INspire through action.
Marco Anzures and Natasha LaBeaud Anzures cofounded 2nd Recess with one goal in mind—to inspire through action. As professional runners, Natasha and Marco saw the need to give back to the community and inspire the next generation to make decisions that can directly impact future health.
As rates of childhood obesity continue to rise, 2nd Recess has committed itself to teaching the importance of regular exercise and healthy dietary habits to children and families within San Diego. 2nd Recess aims to inspire youth to lead active and healthy lives through activities that promote fitness, while educating kids and their families about smart, healthy choices.
It is the goal of 2nd Recess to have kids come away from the program with a basic understanding of healthy habits and a new sense of curiosity for the sport of running that can last a lifetime. At 2nd Recess, we are fortunate to have an amazing group of volunteers who make the program a success. Our coaches and volunteers spend countless hours planning activities that promote fun and fitness, while also teaching 2nd Recessers the power of patience, positivity, and perseverance.

taking action against childhood obesity.
Obesity rates in the U.S. have increased dramatically in recent decades. In 2012, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese. Developing healthy habits, including regular exercise and healthy eating can lower the risk of becoming obese and developing diseases related to the condition. 2nd Recess is a booster shot for families looking to get active, be educated, and develop lifelong healthy habits. We encourage the entire family to be active because children of active parents are twice as likely to be active as adults.
In addition, the following are also major benefits of being active as a kid:
